This is an illustration I did for my friend, Dai’s, PhD thesis. A part of his thesis involved a study around how some gay men (particularly those of a minority status) negotiate being gay outside of mainstream gay culture. One story that really stood out to me as being quite unique and touching involved a middle-aged fellow who has never been intimate with another man, doesn’t necessarily identify as being gay, but spends his days knitting baby socks on park benches and on the train as a way to perform his ‘gayness’. As he still lives at home with an extremely conservative family this is essentially the only way he knows to express his sexuality.

disney au where keith and lance both work at magic kingdom and have to dress up as flynn rider a.k.a eugene from tangled.
they work different shifts so they never bump into each other until one day where they’re accidentally scheduled for the same meet and greet with rapunzel (romelle) and fifty 10 year olds
((lance has heard of the flynn with long black hair who looks like he should be playing rapunzel instead & who’s a BIG hit with the kids— he’s always secretly watching out for keith but can never seem to find him))
anyway, so instead of either of them going “oh hey man, they made a mistake in our scheduling but it’s cool, i’ll go see what’s up!”…..they just…don’t. they somehow think the best idea is to see which one of them can get the kids to like them more
the kids end up being confused because why are there two flynn’s?? and then end up crying when both flynn rider’s start wrestling on the floor
they get in trouble and as punishment have to do a Real Life Tangled Show together
(lance is flynn and keith is rapunzel and at first they hate it but wind up having more fun during it than they’ve ever had when working alone)
their show becomes the Most Loved one and they continue getting paired up for all types of shows after that
